Hawaiian Cement employees this spring helped renovate the facility of a Honolulu-based charity group named HUGS, which provides free support for families that have seriously ill children. The renovation project was organized by AGC Charities Inc., the philanthropic arm of the Associated General Contractors of America.

HUGS — which stands for Help, Understanding & Group Support — currently is providing assistance for nearly 300 families across the state.

“We can’t make these children healthier, but we can use our skills to make life easier, safer and more fun for them and their families,” said Tom Brown, president of AGC Charities. “Contractors feel a deep sense of obligation to give back to the communities they have literally helped build.”

Hawaiian Cement donated all the porous cement along with manpower to repave the outdoor picnic area at the facility. For more information about AGC Charities, go to www.agccharities.org.
